The Chicago Youth Alliance for Climate Action is a student-led organization that promotes environmental education and engages government officials, private-sector organizations, and community members in honest conversations about the environment.
Through our hands-on approach to environmental education, CYACA educates, engages, and empowers Chicago youth to take climate action in their communities and beyond.
The story behind the founding of CYACA goes further in time than one might expect.
After being accepted as Action Fellows at the Alliance of Climate Education for the 2014-2015 school year, we were excited to take the first step towards taking climate action in the city we love.
Through a partnership between ACE and the Environmental Law and Policy Center, we became activists for the Clean Jobs Coalition. We held a letter writing campaign, attended and organized rallies, lobbied our legislators, and spoke to media outlets about the bill. Through this process, not only did we learn about launching and organizing a campaign, we became a tight-knit group of friends that shared a passion for environmental action and education.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the ACE Action Fellowship was not continued for the 2015-2016 school year.
But we didn't let that stop us.
CYACA is committed to create the same opportunities that we had for even more Chicago students. Our hope and goal is to educate about the effects of climate change, inform the public about issues happening in their home town, and empower them to take a stand for the issues they care about.
